Topic 1:
Set Goals: Identify a piece of software that you would like to learn to use. Or perhaps you would like to learn to use a software program with which you are somewhat familiar to perform tasks that are new to you. For example, you may know how to use presentation software to support your lectures, but you want your students to use it to create interactive books. Identify the software, it’s potential use, and why you selected it.
Take Action: Determine steps you can take to meet your goal within a reasonable timeline. You can explore an online tutorial or read an instructional manual. Perhaps there is someone you know who has advanced skills with the software and can show you how to use it. Your school or library may even sponsor mini-workshops on the software. Describe the action steps you took to learn your new software.
Monitor: How well is the action you’ve selected helping you meet your goals? If you’ve selected an instructional manual, does it present things clearly and at an appropriate pace? Do workshops or other interactive settings meet your goals? Are you learning useful information or just reviewing skills you already know? Should you take a different action? Describe the strategies you used and how well they worked.
Evaluate and Extend: What did you learn that you can incorporate into your practice? What do you think you still need to learn? Would you take different actions when learning a new software application in the future? Post your findings.

Portfolio: Create a technology resume

Create a “technology resume.” Use the skills and knowledge addressed in the ISTE performance profiles listed in this chapter as a starting point. Review the profiles and use them as a basis for a self-assessment of your own technology skills. In your resume, include:
* A list of the skills and knowledge you already possess to help you meet the challenges of effectively integrating technology into instruction (powerpoint, google drive, flip chart)
* A list of the specific experiences that have contributed to your current knowledge in technology(workshops and professional development)
